Pisa One of the Most Visited Cities in Italy

Pisa is one of the most visited cities in Italy for its particular and beautiful architecture registered at the Unesco World heritage for years. You can without any problem visit it in a day. Here is my list of what you have to see in Pisa:

Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles)

The center of the city of Pisa is the extraordinary Piazza Duomo (Cathedral), known as Piazza dei Miracoli, built between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries, and gathering four monuments of great interest. That’s why in 1087, it became part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

The Duomo, the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Baptistery and the “Camposanto” are unique examples and authentic architecture of the Roanesque style, which has been then exported to Corsica, Sardinia, and the rest of Tuscany. The legend also says that at this exact place the luster for the encens that the most famous Pisan, Galileo, observed to create the law on isochronism of the pendulum. In reality, the luster has been realized few years later.

Finally, the Camposanto, the monumental cemetery is a must see with its Roman sarcophagi, its precious red ocher from the old frescoes.

The most famous monument of all, including abroad, is of course the Tower of Pisa, tilted a few degrees due to land subsidence, which began a few years after its construction. It is this unexpected feature of the ground, which delayed several years after the end of the work, and it is only now, after a long restoration work in the early years of the twenty-first century that its inclination has been stabilized. According to experts, it will remain unchanged for another four hundred years.

Piazza dei Cavalieri

It is another beautiful square to absolutely see in Pisa. The Palazzo della Carovana, a Renaissance jewel designed by Vasari, dominates the square. Today it is one of the most important Italian University. On the site, you will find the Palazzo dell'Orologio, the statue of Come First and the churches of San Rocco (Saint Roch) and Cavalieri di Santo Stefano (the Knights of St. Stephen).

Getting to Pisa

Pisa is home to the largest airport of Tuscany and is very well connected to Florence by highways as well as by public transport (buses and trains).
