5 Things To Do In Ottawa

Ottawa is the capital of Canada. Located in the East, Ottawa is between Toronto and Montréal. It is famous for the Parliament Hill that looks really similar at the one in London. Being a quiet and easy-going city, the quality life is really good particularly for families. The biggest event that brings thousands of people in the capital is of course the National day during the first of July.

Here are 5 things to do in Ottawa:

  •           Visit the Parliament Hill: Up on the hill, the impressive Gothic-style Parliament is the centerpiece of Ottawa’s landscape. Overlooking on the Ottawa River, free tourist guide is organized every day. Go to the Peace Tower to get an amazing view of the city. Many events take place at the Hill during the year as the Tulip festival, fireworks for the National day, summertime sound and light projections and the Christmas lights like no other in the country.
  •           Rideau Canal: The canal connects the city of Ottawa to the city of Kingston, in Ontario. It is about 220 kilometers. Built in case of war against the Americans in 1812, the canal served first military purpose and then for commercial purpose. During the winter, the canal is open to skaters. Lovely bicycle path along the canal will bring you to the nice countryside of the Ontario province.
  •          ByWard market: It is the center of Ottawa where you can find local products as maple syrup but also vegetables from local farms. It is the meeting point of Canadians. It is a very alive district with restaurants, bars, clubs, boutiques and shops.
  •          Museum of art: The national art museum made with glass and granite located on Sussex Drive, has a varied collection of drawings, paintings, sculptures and photographs. Even if you will find many works focused on Canadian art, the gallery holds pieces from European and American artists. In 2005, a sculpture of a giant spider was installed in front of the museum.
  •          Gatineau Beach: During the Summer, the weather in Ottawa is hot and humid. Few kilometers away from the center, the huge park of Gatineau (around 35,000 hectares) offers many activities as hiking, cycling, boating and swimming in one of the several lakes.

Ottawa is a beautiful city transforming itself every season into a city full of activities and things to see.
